The Role of Community Health Centers in Voter Engagement

This page contains key information and resources surrounding voter education and engagement activities. The purpose of these resources is to encourage and aid health centers in registering patients to vote, keeping patients informed, and communicating the importance of participation.

- Health and Democracy Index – When communities vote, they influence policy decisions that have a significant effect on their health. This analysis compares 12 public health indicators and voter turnout to the restrictiveness of voting policies in each state.
- Vot-ER – Vot-ER integrates voter registration into the healthcare delivery system. Vot-ER is founded on a core belief that empowered voices and full participation in the democratic process lead to positive health outcomes.
- Join National Civic Health Month in August – We aim to make voting and civic participation accessible to all — particularly those underserved by the healthcare system. Civic Health Month is a nationwide celebration held each August to showcase the strengthening relationship between health care, healthy communities, and civic participation.
My Vote My Health Campaign
My Vote My Health is a campaign launched by AltaMed Health Services in 2018 to mobilize community health center patients, staff, providers, and communities served by community health centers in California to address the social and political drivers of health. Under the leadership of AltaMed and CPCA, this Integrated Civic Engagement Model expansion seeks to create community health center civic engagement hubs throughout California by linking community healthcare providers and local civic engagement organizations. These efforts help to increase civic participation and build power in some of the most underserved and under-resourced communities in the state, fostering transformational change and an improved quality of life while closing the gaps on healthcare disparities.
