The California Health Equity and Racial Justice (HERJ) Fund

The May revise did not include the HERJ Fund. The co-sponsors of the fund put together an email campaign (here) to Governor Newsom and the State Legislature requesting ongoing annual funding of $100 million for the HERJ Fund to support community-based organizations, including clinics, to improve the health and well-being of communities.

Additionally, you can find more information about the Fund on this factsheet, and you can access more resources including social media graphics here.

LIFT the BAR Act

Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF) is recirculating their LIFT the BAR sign-on letter to Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Schumer. This is the same sign-on letter that was circulated in September and sent to Congress. The body of the letter has not changed. The LIFT the BAR Act restores access to programs like Medicaid, CHIP, and SNAP, by removing the five-year bar and other barriers that deny critical care and aid to people who are lawfully present.

To sign on and to see the list of organizations that signed on last fall, click here. The deadline to sign on is this Friday, May 20. For more information on the LIFT the BAR Act, take a look at PIF’s factsheet and their resources page.
