Practicing Non-Violent Communication
April 10 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
FreeConversations about bias and discrimination can easily turn contentious and close opportunities for change when confronted in a way that provokes a fight or flight response (through fear, shame, or guilt). Non-violent communication recognizes that people are more open to new ideas and perspectives when they are rooted in building trust, empathy, safety, and appreciation. In this session, we will explore the four components of non-violent communication (observations, feelings, needs, requests) and practice applying these in workplace scenarios.
As a result of attending this session, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the components of non-violent communication strategies;
- Recognize and push through uncomfortable conversations, and;
- Explore opportunities to build trust and practice empathy as a part of in relationships.
