Health Center Practices To Improve Breast Cancer and Colorectal Cancer Screenings

The Breast Cancer and Colorectal Cancer Screening webinar will include best practices, partnerships, workflows, and efforts from Los Angeles County clinics on screening implementation at their respective centers. Quality improvement and clinical staff will share how they work to improve screenings for breast cancer and colorectal cancer, and the role their clinical teams play in successfully getting a patient to get screened.

During this webinar, participants will:

  • Learn about breast cancer screening efforts and workflows that have been proven to increase screening rates in SPA 6 of Los Angeles area.
  • Listen to implementable best practices from clinics to improve colorectal cancer screening rates.
  • Learn about partnerships with external entities, and efforts to improve breast cancer and colorectal cancer screenings.

Instructor Biographies:

Praphaphone Osti, MPH, Director of Performance Improvement, Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc.

Praphaphone “Poppy” Osti, MPH, Director of Performance Improvement, Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. Poppy has been with Asian Pacific Health Care Venture, Inc. for over 30 years serving in various capacity starting as a Public Health intern to program coordinator to program development and evaluation to director of services.  The current position of Director of Performance Improvement includes duties such as identifying and strategizing solutions for improvement needs within the organizations and utilizing program evaluation in program quality improvements.  Poppy completed her graduate degree in Public Health from UCLA.

Jose Morales, Quality Improvement Coordinator, UMMA Community Clinic

Jose Morales is the quality improvement coordinator for UMMA Community Clinic with 7 years of experience working as the Lead referral coordinator, patient services navigation and quality improvement. A degree in Business Administration and CAHIMSsm Certification, he enjoys using his expertise to help the under-resourced population attain proper medical care.

Shenyell Morales, DNP, Director of Clinical Services and Family Nurse Practitioner, Kedren Community Care Clinic

Shenyell Morales, DNP is the Director of Clinical Services and Family Nurse Practitioner at Kedren Community Care Clinic. Dr. Morales has been with Kedren since 1999 in various roles including Children’s Inpatient Unit Manager, Wellness Director, Director of Nursing, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner and Director of Clinical Services. In her current position of Dr. Morales is responsible for the supervision of all medical assistants, continuing competency evaluation for medical assistants, ongoing quality improvement for primary care services, and prepare clinics for all state and federal audit. She holds dual certification in adult psychiatric nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner. Dr. Morales completed her nursing doctorate degree from Grand Canyon University. She currently resides in Los Angeles,California and enjoys reading drama novels, hiking, walking, traveling, and spending quality time with my family.

Jennifer M. Miranda, Outreach and Enrollment Specialist, Kedren Community Care Clinic.

Jennifer Miranda has experience in the Health Care industry working for FQHCs over 14 years. Her job extends far greater than her role as Enrollment Specialist. She has worked in (SPA 6) community, with re-entry population programs, migrant programs, and surrounding community.   She has played an integral role in assisting with Kedren Community Care Clinic’s mammogram screening events. Currently, she is working towards a degree in Psychology and Behavioral Science with a focus in the Juvenile Incarceration System. She is hopeful that she will become the best advocate and be the voice of these young adults seeking a second chance. She is the third born daughter to a father who served 25 years in prison. His stories about lack of mental health resources while incarcerated impacted her career choices the most. She hopes to make an impactful and lasting impression on our under-resourced communities.
