From Cultural Awareness to Cultural Humility
February 2, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, repeating until February 16, 2022
Participants will engage in self-awareness about their own culture and race and how these identities impact their perceptions, assessments, and the work that they do. Participants will then learn about power imbalances and inequities, barriers to achieving cultural competence, and challenges in working with cross cultural communities. Finally, participants will broaden their cultural lens and begin to develop or enhance a skill set necessary to effectively work with and provide services to diverse populations.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about intrinsic cultural factors, health beliefs and practices of diverse ethnic populations.
- Discuss and identify barriers to the delivery of culturally responsive services.
- Identify ways to develop a culturally sensitive lens and strategies for effective communication when working with cross cultural communities.
Presented by Mireya Munoz and Tania Aguilar from SSG/ PALS for Health.
