How Do We Survive This? Protecting Our Communities in a Time of Crisis

August 7, 2025 – In-Person Event

Los Angeles is at the precipice of crisis, facing federal and state decisions that threaten to undermine our safety net and our economy. From the federal government’s disinvestment in Medicaid and California’s retreat from Health4All, to the chilling effects of today’s immigration environment and attempts to restrict access to specific services, this moment demands bold leadership and honest dialogue.

As we mark National Health Center Week, join us for a powerful conversation with Los Angeles County Supervisor and former state legislator Holly J. Mitchell about the current health care landscape and the challenges facing our communities. We’ll discuss how policies like H.R. 1, reinterpretation of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA), and changes to Medi-Cal threaten access to care and the stability of safety net providers, like LA County and community health centers. Millions of patients and community members are expected to lose health care coverage at the same time the safety net is facing funding threats from all levels. For over 30 years, Los Angeles community health centers have partnered with the County to overcome challenges and ensure continued access to care for all Angelenos. But the perfect storm is upon us: as demand increases, funding falls short, and disparities widen, we are forced to ask, “how do we survive this?”

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of California’s most visionary leaders about what it will take to protect safety net services, rebuild trust, and stand up for health care for all in the face of these formidable obstacles.
