Motivational Interviewing (MI) helps patients find their motivation for change and identify what is important to them about their health. The training is designed for practitioners of all disciplines who work with patients that are ambivalent or resistant to change and who are living with or at high risk for chronic diseases. Trainers will host the discussions and activities across three webinars scheduled, Fridays July 10, 17, and 24, 2020. Each session is scheduled 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and will include all activities and breakout sessions from the in-person experience. Webinar links and access will be emailed in advance of the training dates.
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the spirit and principles of MI
- Demonstrate how to use OARS (open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summaries)
- Use the readiness ruler, stages of change theory, and decisional balance when counseling patients
- Discuss advanced concepts of MI and how to integrate them into patient counseling sessions
