HICS – Incident Command System for Clinics

FreeThis course will provide foundational knowledge and skills necessary to understand and function within the National Incident Management System (NIMS) with the application of the Healthcare Incident Command System (HICS). Incorporation of the Incident Command System (ICS)/Healthcare Incident Command System (HICS) into the clinic enables cross-sector collaboration and support, including emergency resource requests and effective recovery procedures. This training includes didactic and interactive activities and a Tabletop Exercise to include:
- Incident management team chart
- All hazards approach
- Incident action planning
- Job action sheets
- Incident planning guides
- Incident response guides
- HICS forms
- Demobilization and recovery
During this in-person training, participants will:
- Learn the principal concepts and features of the Incident Command System;
- Understand the roles and relationships of the incident management team for health centers;
- Understand the principles of incident action planning.

Instructor Biography:
Mary Massey has over 25 years in hospital emergency services and county health disaster management. She participates in multi-agency, state and federal coalitions and deploys with the CA-1 DMAT and CalMAT Teams to multiple wildfire and hurricanes; previous emergencies include Ike, Katrina and the Camp Fire. She is a member of the HICS National Workgroup, and participated in projects with the CDC, United Nations, and numerous Homeland Security Exercises across the country. She has her BSN and Public Health Nurse Certificate, and graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master’s in Homeland Security and Defense. She is currently the California Hospital Association, VP Emergency Management.
