Cybersecurity for Emergency Management Professionals

June 3, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This 2-hour interactive workshop is tailored for emergency management teams within health centers and community health organizations. With the healthcare sector increasingly targeted by cyberattacks—especially ransomware—it’s critical for emergency managers to understand both the evolving threat landscape and their role in a coordinated response. Participants will receive a concise update on current cybersecurity trends and healthcare-specific threats, explore key takeaways from recent ransomware incidents affecting health systems, and examine how emergency management practices align with cybersecurity incident response frameworks.

Through two hands-on virtual tabletop exercises, participants will engage in scenario-based discussions designed to simulate a ransomware event in a healthcare setting. These exercises will challenge teams to work collaboratively, adapt to evolving attacks, and reflect on organizational preparedness, communication protocols, and continuity of care.

As a result of participating in this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify lessons learned from recent cyberattacks on healthcare organizations and evaluate how these lessons apply to their own health center’s preparedness.
  • Compare emergency management and cybersecurity incident response processes and identify areas of operational overlap and collaboration.
  • Participate in virtual tabletop exercises simulating cybersecurity attacks, demonstrating effective decision-making, communication, and coordination under pressure.
