Throughout the program\, participants gain knowledge and skills\, work in large and small groups\, participate in hands-on exercises\, and discuss crucial issues in engaging\, managing\, and retaining health center staff. We also incorporate short\, weekly implementation “homework” to encourage putting new skills into immediate action.  \nAgenda: Click here for the program agenda.  \nTime commitment:  \nThe “Core Competencies” program will be held each Tuesday morning\, March 18 – April 15\, 2025. This is a 5-week program and participants should plan to attend all five sessions. This training focuses on practical\, culturally responsive\, and body-based tools that can be immediately applied in disaster response settings to foster a sense of safety\, connection\, and empowerment.   \nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will:   \n\nUnderstand the neurobiology of acute stress and trauma in the context of wildfire displacement.  \nLearn and practice the strategies to help stabilize individuals experiencing acute distress.  \nApply key somatic techniques\, including tracking\, grounding\, and resourcing\, to promote nervous system regulation.  \nExplore resiliency enhancing skills to foster long-term recovery and self-regulation in displaced individuals.  \nGain practical skills to integrate somatic interventions into crisis response efforts with cultural sensitivity and trauma-informed care.  \n\nPresented by Marina Compean\, LCSW \nComplimentary for CCALAC Members and Affiliates \nRegister Now! \nInstructor Biography \nMarina Compean\, LCSW\, is a bilingual (Spanish-English) licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience specializing in trauma recovery\, somatic healing\, and resilience-building. SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing
DESCRIPTION:Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative\, person-centered communication style. MI skills were derived from clinical practitioners who demonstrated the importance of genuineness\, rapport building\, accurate empathy\, understanding and acceptance of differing viewpoints with the purpose of identifying priorities and setting goals in pursuit of behavioral change. In accordance with the core values of counseling\, MI practitioners emphasize empowering individuals through forging a collaborative partnership and shared decision-making as essential components to the process of behavioral change. MI affirms strengths\, reinforces motivation and commitment\, fosters optimism\, and practices unconditional acceptance of the individual. MI has been empirically tested in a wide variety of contexts and settings with diverse populations; research findings show MI to have a positive impact on the individuals served. \nThe MI Training aims to equip and strengthen trainees’ capacity to implement evidence-based\, collaborative\, person-centered communication skills into diverse settings among a variety of populations. The training consists of class discussion\, interactive activities\, and role-playing exercises. The goal of experiential learning is to scaffold trainees learning toward a more purposeful and practical use of MI skills. This learning process will draw upon trainees’ current knowledge and experiences and at the same time will challenge prior knowledge and assumptions using relevant experiential-based methods. \nAt the end of this training\, trainees will be able to: \n\nIdentify Stages of Change.\nDistinguish between Sustain Talk and Change Talk.\nDescribe and evaluate the components of MI and MI Spirit.\nDistinguish between MI Consistent and Inconsistent Behaviors.\nIdentify and form reflective statements.\nConvert closed questions into open questions.\nCreate accurate affirmations.\nFacilitate conversations with MI Skills.\n\nPresented by Aneisa Young Bolton\, MA \nSpace is limited! \nCCALAC Members and Affiliates $150 \nNon-members $200 \nRegister Now! \nInstructor Biography: \nAneisa Young Bolton has facilitated training and workshops that promote and develop positive behavioral change for over 20 years. \nTraining that includes staff from a variety of professions and industries\, including Education\, Law Enforcement\, Mental Health\, and Social Services.
