SUMMARY:ICS 700: Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
DESCRIPTION:This course provides an overview of the National Incident Management System (NIMS). The National Incident Management System defines the comprehensive approach guiding the whole community – all levels of government\, nongovernmental organizations (NGO)\, and the private sector – to work together seamlessly to prevent\, protect against\, mitigate\, respond to\, and recover from the effects of incidents. The course provides learners with a basic understanding of NIMS concepts\, principles\, and components. \nAt the end of this course\, students will be able to:  \n\nDescribe and identify the key concepts\, principles\, scope\, and applicability underlying NIMS.\nDescribe the NIMS Management Characteristics.\nIdentify and describe Incident Command System (ICS) organizational structures.\nExplain Emergency Operations Center (EOC) functions\, common models for staff organization\, and activation levels.\nIdentify and describe the characteristics of communications and information systems\, effective communication\, incident information\, and communication standards and formats.\n\nPresented by Mary Massey\, BSN\, MA\, PHN\, VP\, Emergency Management\, California Hospital Association \nSpace is limited. She participates in multi-agency\, state and federal coalitions and deploys with the CA-1 DMAT and CalMAT Teams to multiple wildfires and hurricanes; previous emergencies include Ike\, Katrina and the Camp Fire. She is a member of the HICS National Workgroup\, and participated in projects with the CDC\, United Nations\, and numerous Homeland Security Exercises across the country. She has her BSN and Public Health Nurse Certificate\, and graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master’s in Homeland Security and Defense. She is currently the California Hospital Association\, VP Emergency Management.
