Understanding Medicare and Its Impact on Health Centers

As health center patients continue to age, many are unaware of Medicare, its benefits, and how navigating new, complex system can disrupt their care. CCALAC has collaborated with Forvis Mazars to host a two-session workshop for health centers to maximize opportunities within Medi-Care. Further, to learn how they can optimize billing and create a retention strategy to retain patients.

As a result of attending this series, health center professionals will be able to: 

  • Understand Medicare, including its structure and role within the healthcare system specific to FQHCs  
  • Identify opportunities for FQHCs to optimize reimbursement when serving Medicare patients 
  • Bring questions unique to their health centers that help them develop Medicare related programming

Instructor Biography:

Caroline Golmon-Hernandez, RHIA, CRCR, CSBI, Managing Consultant Healthcare Performance Improvement

Caroline is a member of the Healthcare Performance Improvement practice unit. She has more than seven years of experience in mid-revenue cycle with a focus on coding & documentation compliance and clinical revenue integrity. She frequently performs coding & documentation assessments for large healthcare organizations including Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Centers, Critical Access Hospital and Behavioral Health Systems. In addition, she leverages her knowledge of data analytics to assist clients in HIM departmental assessments. With her success of departmental assessments, she assists clients in performance improvement implementations to help drive revenue centric initiatives. Prior to joining Forvis MazarsCaroline began her career with a large clinical staffing and revenue cycle management company where she obtained experience in claims processing, process improvement, data analysis, ICD-10-CM coding, AMA HCPCS CPT coding, insurance provider rules and regulations, and revenue cycle procedures. Caroline is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and American Health Information Management Association. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR), and Certified Specialist of Business Intelligence (CSBI).  She is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and Information Management. She currently sits on the curriculum advisory board for Louisiana Tech University Health Informatics and Information Management department. 

Stacey Gee, COC, CPHT, CRCR, Manager, Healthcare Consulting

Stacey is a manager in the Healthcare Consulting practice at Forvis Mazars. She has more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry, assisting healthcare organizations with their operational and financial performance with a focus on the revenue cycle. In addition to her experience as a healthcare consultant, Stacey has held roles in claims processing and as a billing specialist for multiple healthcare providers. Her experience also includes several years in the long-term care environment providing skilled nursing facility billing services and managerial functions. Her previous roles with healthcare organizations help her identify and relate to the daily challenges presented to clients. Stacey also has experience in managing chargemaster implementation projects, working directly with hospital staff to implement chargemaster revisions, charge ticket revisions, and provide charge capture and coding training and education as required. Stacey also works with clients on managing revenue cycle reviews and assessments to determine the appropriateness of processes currently in place, tracking charges and accuracy of charges from point of entry through billing and any associated claim denial process, and providing training and education solutions to prevent and/or correct claim denials and improve charge capture process. She also has assisted facilities in developing and training revenue integrity departments to improve physician documentation and enhance revenue opportunities.   Other project management functions include managing department assessments and assisting facilities with development and reorganizational structure, including staff evaluation, training, and identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements and processes; and assisting with developing physician delinquency processes and policies. Stacey is a Certified Outpatient Coder (COC™), Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPHT), and Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR).
