ACEs Aware Implementation Approach for Health Centers

This training will provide an overview of ACEs Aware and how health centers enrolled in the Health Center Controlled Network can implement Health IT screening tool to address social determinants of health. ACEs Aware is an initiative led by the California Office of the Surgeon General and Department of Healthcare Services to address the largely unrecognized public health crisis of toxic stress stemming from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Med-Cal now reimburses providers $29.00 for ACEs screenings. This training will provide an overview of what ACEs Aware is, the value and research behind ACEs, the process for health center implementation, selection of screening tools, scoring methodology, and steps for certification and payment.

Learning Objectives of the Training Include:
Learning Objective 1: Obtain a general understanding of the ACEs aware program and mechanic of FQHCs reimbursements in pediatric and adult populations.
Learning Objective 2: Understand the science of ACEs and its implications on health outcomes for patients and importance of implementing ACEs screening in the primary care setting.
Learning Objective 3: Participants will be provided with an overview of tools on how to implement ACEs screening in an FQHC setting to receive reimbursement, including but not limited to validated screening tools and questions, frequencies required, workflow, scripts, role play, and talking points for the MA and provider, and case studies.
